UNION CITY, N.J. (Audacy) – New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy lashed out at anti-vax protesters at a Union City bill signing Wednesday, calling them the “ultimate knuckleheads.”
Murphy was signing a bill to amend the state’s eviction moratorium when he slammed the protesters who had shown up to the event with signs reading “no forced injections” and “medical choice is a human right.”
"You've lost your minds! You are the ultimate knuckleheads. And because of what you are saying and standing for, people are losing their life," he said, to a round of applause.
“Look in the mirror! Look in the mirror!” Murphy added.
The bill signing came as coronavirus cases continue to rise across the country, field by the delta variant. As of Tuesday, New Jersey reported 1,313 new coronavirus cases -- up from a daily caseload of 154 just one month prior.
Murphy said he is still weighing additional steps to stop the spread of the coronavirus, including the possibility of mandatory vaccinations for certain activities.
“We are here at an inflection point in our fight – not just against the COVID pandemic – but also against the tremendous upheaval for thousands and thousands of New Jerseyans,” Murphy said during the news conference. “Please get vaccinated if you are not vaccinated. We are not out of the fight. Please get vaccinated.”
