Murphy says feds shorted NJ on COVID-19 vaccines because of 'honest mistake'

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- N.J. Gov. Murphy says he expects about a half-million doses of coronavirus vaccine will be distributed in the state over the next month.

In an interview on "CBS This Morning," Murphy said because of an "honest mistake" by the federal government, the state is getting less of the vaccines than first expected.

"I think we've got 212,000 doses coming into the state this week, between Moderna and Pfizer," he said. "Somewhat less than we thought, but we're going to use every single one of them."

Murphy has a videoconference with the White House on Monday afternoon to talk about vaccine distribution. He said the state's goal is to inoculate 70% of all residents over the next six months, and the priority list is still being determined.

"After you get through health care workers and long-term care residents, you have a lot of populations that are rightfully vying to get into that next -- at the head of the line of the 1B group: Essential workers, front-line workers, first responders, other vulnerable communities."

Murphy also stopped short of saying he would ban travel from the United Kingdom, where a new strain of the virus has been detected. Murphy said his advice is to not travel for the holidays and to keep celebrations small.
