PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A nearly $150 million construction project is underway to rehabilitate the bridges that carry Market Street over Amtrak and the Schuylkill Expressway.
Starting Monday, April 13, 1-76 West will be reduced to one lane between 30th Street and the I-676 interchanges. This will take place between 9 and 10 p.m. every Sunday through Thursday until Monday, June 1.
Then, from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, I-76 West will be closed and detoured along that same stretch.
Drivers will be directed to exit at 30th Street and travel west on Schuylkill Avenue to access the ramps to I-76 West and I-676 East.
PennDOT said the following travel restrictions remain in place until June 1:
- Southbound 30th Street, detoured between JFK Boulevard and Market Street
- Westbound Market Street, reduced to one lane between Schuylkill Avenue and 30th Street
Other things to look out for:
- Lane closure in both directions on sections of the Schuylkill Expressway between City Avenue and I-676 interchanges from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m. through Friday, April 17.
- A periodic lane closure from Tuesday, April 14, through Friday, April 24, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., eastbound on the Schuylkill Expressway off-ramp to Spring Garden Street.
