OCEAN CITY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — There’s no place like the Jersey Shore, especially when you’re trying to find some relief from the heat that’s hitting the rest of the region this week.

The Shore was in many people’s plans as Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs are expected to feel like triple digits. But even close to the beach, the hot and humid weather is still present despite it being a little cooler.

Norma Bozarth from Collingswood said she was on the boardwalk to feel a little wind as she rode her bike.

“Riding a bike and just staying out of the sun for now. But then when you stop, you feel it,” she said.

Bozarth was joined by Janice Kennedy from Gloucester City for the morning bike ride, and said it’s one of the many ways both have passed time on the hot day.

“Riding the bikes, people watching, sitting on the beach,” said Kennedy of the other activities.

Bozarth added that the hot days also bring more opportunities to see family and friends.

“Nobody wants to come out in the cold, at least I don’t,” she said. “So when it’s nice out, you get together with everybody.”

Cathay Drelick from Bucks County planned to hit the beach early before the sun was at its highest point to avoid the worst of the heat.

“Go down early, then we come back home, walk on the boards, then we go back to the beach and stay in the air conditioning when we must,” she said.

But then there’s beachgoers like John Covely from Pitman, who said he didn’t care what the temperature was because he’s retired.

“It could be as hot as it could be, it could be as cold as it could be. I’ve got the pool at home, we’ve got the beach right here, so it’s the best of both worlds,” said Covely.

“Today,” he said, is “a beach day.”
