Neighbors rescue woman from burning home in Philadelphia’s West Oak Lane neighborhood

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A heroic act in West Oak Lane. A woman was rescued by her neighbors after a fire broke out at her twin home early Sunday morning.

The fire happened on 15th Street near Cheltenham Avenue, across from Northwood Cemetery.

Neighbor Emma Hammond-Vincent told NBC10 that her husband, Shayne, received a call from their neighbor at 4:53 a.m., saying she was trapped on the third floor as fire spread through the home.

"I told her to step out of her window onto the ledge, and we'd come and get her,” Hammond-Vincent told NBC10. “So when I came out the front door, I looked up and saw her. Then I called to my husband that she's on the third floor and you have to get her. So he ran back upstairs and came out our third floor, and swung her over."

The couple then helped the woman into their home through a window before walking downstairs and outside safely.

Firefighters remained on the scene putting out the fire. Video from the scene showed heavy damage to the home and smoke billowing into the air.

No injuries were reported.
