PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An upcoming music festival will highlight the works of creatives who call Fishtown home. It's an event meant to bring the community together and show others its worth.

The Fishtown Music and Arts Festival makes its debut Saturday, Oct. 8 from 12-11 p.m. It's the brainchild of Anthony Talarico, who moved to Fishtown in 2014.

"I had this conversation for probably about six or seven years with some people in the neighborhood of these ideas that I had. During COVID when we were kind of stuck inside and we didn't have much going on, I had a lot of time to think about this," he said.

Talarico's vision of a Fishtown-centric festival is now coming to fruition.

"As we built out the music list and the art vendor list, we tried to have as many people from the Fishtown, Kensington, Northern Liberties, the immediate surrounding area most represented," he said.

He said there will be 10 hours of music with artists from a number of genres, including Snacktime, Out of the Beardspace, Minka, DJ Xtina and Wassup Gina. Tickets are $20.

"We also set up a free admission area," said Talarico. "That's where we have 25 art vendors. We got a few bars, we got Gritty City Winery. On the back end of that, we have a children's area set up. Face painting, ballon making, street performers, the Philly Elmo drum line to do a little performance."
