PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — As a wave allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination surface against Philadelphia craft beer leaders, an industry code-of-conduct guide is being distributed in advance of Beer Week.
Non-profit organization Philly Loves Beer promotes and protects the interests of the craft beer community in the Philadelphia region.
With recent accusations of sexism, discrimination and harassment by craft beer industry leaders towards employees and others, Philly Loves Beer has created a code of conduct to be followed by craft beer industry professionals and others participating in events promoted by the organization.
Philly Loves Beer Executive Director Christina Dowd said the code of conduct was created in time for Beer Week.
"I think this situation has brought about the need of (the code), or maybe the question of why wasn’t it done before? And it’s not just for Philly Loves Beer but lots of places," Dowd said.
"So we stepped up as fast as we could and had it drafted up and looked over legally.”
The guidelines are in place for everyone affiliated with Philly Loves Beer, according to Dowd.
"They are just general guidelines of being a good human being to others, as well as what would happen if you don’t," said Dowd.
The consequences include no promotion or participation in Philly Loves Beer events.
Beer Week begins on June 4th at various venues throughout the region.
