GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Cooper University Health Care has announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art outpatient facility near the Gloucester Premium Outlets along Route 42.
The $300 million facility would be more than just a new building. Cooper chairman George Norcross said it’s emblematic of the changing health care landscape, with more of a focus on convenience.
“It’s occurred to many of us in leadership that we need to be bringing health care to our patients, not the other way around,” he said.
Norcross said most hospital business these days is outpatient care — a patient comes in for a procedure and goes home.
Gov. Mikie Sherrill attended the announcement and said, as a working mom herself, health care needs to move away from banker’s hours. She said getting her kids to their appointments is a challenge she and so many others face.
“One of them needed a blood test, lab work. So I had to go into work a little late yesterday morning so I could get her over there,” she said. “That’s the kind of toll it takes on parents. And in too many cases — and certainly this has been the case in my family — kids just miss appointments, blood work doesn’t get done.”
The facility will be open seven days a week, with night hours. And, it promises to bring about 400 jobs to the region.
The facility will include multiple specialties, including:
- Advanced specialty exam suites for cardiology, neurology, oncology, OB-GYN, orthopaedics, urology, pulmonary, pain management, and additional specialties
- An MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper suite featuring radiation oncology and infusion services
- A next-generation radiology suite equipped with advanced diagnostic imaging technology
- A dedicated procedural suite for digestive health
- A modern ambulatory surgery center designed for seamless outpatient care
The five-story, nearly 184,000-square-foot campus is scheduled for construction in mid-2027, with expected completion in 2029.
