PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — At a time when meat and chicken are in short supply, a new steakhouse has opened on the Main Line.
Anthony DePaul opened DePaul’s Table at 7 E. Lancaster Ave. in Ardmore.
“We hand cut all our meat from Buckhead. We dry-age all our meat in house. We’re also going to have a dry-age room where we keep all our steaks on display,” he said.
He’s not concerned about rising meat prices or shortages during a pandemic. In fact, he’s doubling down.
“Is there ever really a good time to open up a new restaurant? Who knows,” he said. “But it was a great opportunity and I think we’re right at the cusp of opening up at the right time with a lot of the restrictions being loosened.”
Of course, the coronavirus pandemic isn’t over yet. Many restaurants are getting by with minimal staff. DePaul simply asks for compassion and understanding.
“It’s a real struggle out there,” he added.
Business has certainly changed, but it’s not all bad.
“The takeout business opened up a whole new revenue stream for restaurants, where who would think to go to a steakhouse and get takeout?”
DePaul’s Table used to be occupied by The Bercy. Going from a French brasserie to an Italian steakhouse has allowed him to add some personal touches.
In the restaurant, there’s “a map of Rome,” he described, “and to the right of that, you’ll see portraits of my family. A portrait of my four sons and my wife, who, without (her), none of this would’ve been able to happen.”
