PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — If you live in New Jersey, you can sign up for the Affordable Care Act, starting now. And there are some new rules of the road to make things easier.

The Garden State joins 14 others and the District of Columbia in running its own health exchange.

"It'll begin providing better access than ever before for residents in need of a more affordable health care plan that works for them and for their families," said Gov. Phil Murphy.

"Getting our state exchange up and running has been — to say it's been a team effort is the understatement, I think, of the year."

One major change is a 90-day open enrollment period, running through January 31, 2021, twice the window under the Trump plan. Another change is that coverage starts on the first day of the month after you register. There's a new website as well.

The move comes as the U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear arguments in little more than a week that could kill or severely hamper "Obamacare."

Murphy said if that happens, it could hit New Jersey hard, since the state now pays just 10% of the bill. The federal government covers the rest.
