PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) —The new commissioner of Major League Soccer is a part-owner of the LA Galaxy, but he's got some Philly ties.
Larry Berg takes over as MLS commissioner on Jan. 1.
The 60-year-old Berg is the league’s third commissioner, replacing Don Garber, who has held the job since 1999.
He is a Cherry Hill native, and, according to the Inquirer, played soccer at Cherry Hill East.
Berg graduated from Penn’s Wharton School, got an MBA at Harvard and has spent decades in private equity, including time at Apollo Global Management and 26North.
