PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — From streetlight poles to trash trucks to the roofs of newsstands, Philadelphia sports fans love climbing things as demonstrated during the NFC Championship celebrations along Broad Street Sunday night.

“The city is on fire right now,” said an Eagles fan. “I'm so excited — I'm looking forward to it."

There is no doubt that Eagles fans are unique and passionate. Greased or not greased, climbing light poles is something a lot of fans just can't pass up.

One fan called it "a Philly tradition."

Ahead of the Super Bowl the city of New Orleans is finalizing safety advice for visitors attending, but one thing is certain: climbing light poles in New Orleans is against the law.

The New Orleans Police Department warned football fans headed to the Super Bowl, that climbing street poles is considered trespassing and offenders will be criminally charged.

Police also said the poles in the French Quarter are old and could topple. Trespassers who cause damage will be held financially liable. Climbing balcony support poles, which are private property, is also illegal.
