PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A South Jersey man is in custody and charged with murder after authorities said he stabbed his aunt to death at her apartment in Lumberton on Friday.
The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office charged 40-year-old Jason Mutschler on Saturday with murder, unlawful possession, and other related charges.
Officials said the investigation began on Friday afternoon, when officers discovered the body of 60-year-old Vanessa Sturtevent at the Sterling Glen Apartments on Eayrestown Road. The Medical Examiner’s Office determined it was a homicide; she was found with stab wounds to her head and neck, along with bruises to her face.
Mutschler, of Hainesport, was an early suspect and was charged after being questioned by prosecutors.
A detention hearing for Mutschler will be held soon in Mount Holly.
