SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A South Jersey farmer died on Sunday in what his family described as a tragic machinery accident.

Police, fire and other EMS crews arrived at the Hunter's Farm Market in Cinnaminson around 10:15 a.m. and found 77-year-old John Hunter caught in a farming machine. He died from his injuries.

State and county officials said Hunter always served his community and put his heart and soul into growing food people depend on.

His family released a video thanking everyone who has been there for them during this difficult time.

His son, John, and daughter, Amy, said this has always been dangerous work, and their family has been happy to do it for more than 260 years.

“We’re very grateful for all the farmers, area farmers that we know, fruits and vegetables guys, all farmers, that have reached out to us and have offered to make things easier on us, offered their help,” John said in the video.

“Thank you isn’t even a big enough word to describe the gratitude I have for these guys,” added Amy.

She said right now is peak season for the farmers market, so there’s no time to waste.

“You know, we’re right back at it in the fields. Not that it didn’t sink in, but we know what needs to get done and we know to honor my father, that we’re going to get it done and things aren’t going to lack.”
