SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — An Egg Harbor City man has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter charges for an accident that killed a young boy in 2023.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office says 25-year-old Edward Johnston was intoxicated and going 107 miles-per-hour on White Horse Pike in Absecon when he rear-ended a parked car where 8-year-old Javier Velez slept in the back seat.
The boy's father and brother were outside fishing when the crash happened.
The plea deal calls for Johnston to serve 15 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for May 13.
