PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A South Jersey nurse’s aide has admitted to spraying an elderly paralyzed woman in the face and eyes with bleach.
It happened at Avista Healthcare nursing home in Cherry Hill in 2023.
Simone Goldsboro, 37, said she grabbed the bottle of bleach from a custodian’s cart and sprayed the woman as she was undressing the patient to wash her.
Goldsboro has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. The state is recommending she spend a year in jail and forfeit her license.
“We have to trust the people who care for our loved ones at residential facilities,” state Attorney General Jennifer Davenport said in a statement. “This defendant exploited that trust and physically assaulting a paralyzed patient in her care. We will not tolerate the abuse of elderly and vulnerable individuals, especially by those entrusted with their care.”
Goldsboro will be sentenced on Oct. 30.
