PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A plane that took off from the Jersey Shore late Saturday night crashed in Maryland, killing all three men on board.
The single-engine Piper Cherokee plane took off from Ocean City, New Jersey, around 11:30 p.m., en route to Montgomery County, Maryland. It went down in a wooded area in Bowie, Maryland, about 40 miles from its destination.
“We believe the plane belongs to a local flight school in Montgomery County and was possibly participating in a training flight,” said Elaina Russo with Maryland State Police.
Emergency officials received an iPhone crash alert. Aerial and ground crews searched for the wreckage but only found it about four hours after it went down.
The woods where the plane crashed are very close to a residential area.
Maryland State Police identified the three victims: The pilot was 26-year-old Yoav Bomrbind, of Israel. His two passengers were 19-year-old David Rabinovitz, also of Israel, and Elad Neidik, of Canada.
Investigators believe the aircraft belongs to a local flight school in Montgomery County, Maryland. The NTSB and FAA are investigating the cause of the deadly plane crash.
