PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A pre-K teacher’s aide down the shore is accused of sexually assaulting multiple children and creating images of child sexual abuse for more than a decade.
Prosecutors in Atlantic County said 43-year-old Shaun Stebbins, of Somers Point, has been abusing kids since 2014.
Stebbins is charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault of a victim under the age of 13, first-degree permitting a child to engage in pornography, second-degree photographing a child in a sex act, second-degree endangering the welfare of a child by sexual conduct, third-degree showing obscene material to a minor, and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.
Prosecutors did not say how many victims Stebbins allegedly assaulted, nor how many child sex abuse materials he created and possessed.
Stebbins was arrested on March 29 and is being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility awaiting a detention hearing on Monday.
Prosecutors said Stebbins works at Woodbine Elementary School. KYW Newsradio has reached out to the school district’s superintendent for comment.
Atlantic County Prosecutor William Reynolds said in a statement:
We are deeply concerned that there may be additional victims, particularly given the defendant’s access to children through his employment. As we have seen in other recent cases, individuals who prey on children often place themselves in positions of trust within schools, organizations, and youth programs to gain access to victims. Out of an abundance of caution, we are alerting the public despite the holiday weekend and in advance of the scheduled detention hearing.Anyone with information is urged to contact the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-909-7800 or submit an anonymous tip at acpo.org/tips
