SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — New Jersey Republicans have introduced articles of impeachment against state Attorney General Matt Platkin, one day after a judge tossed Platkin’s racketeering case against George Norcross and five co-defendants.

The filing — introduced by Assembly Republican leaders John DiMaio, Antwan McClellan and Christopher DePhillips — claims Platkin has “weaponized” his position and the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability.

It also claims he eroded public trust in the work his office is doing, specifically investigating allegations of police misconduct.

“Platkin has undermined people’s trust in our police and the office of the Attorney General. We’re starting the impeachment process to balance the scales of justice,” DiMaio said in a statement. “He is not above the law.”

It would take a two-thirds vote to impeach the attorney general, and Democrats have a significant advantage in the Legislature.
