PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Supply chain issues are delaying the lighting upgrade project along Philadelphia's iconic Boathouse Row.
Boathouse Row has been dark since the $2.1 million project started in the spring. It was supposed to be completed and lit up in time for the holidays but will now take several more months.
The entire lighting system is being replaced on 15 historic buildings along the Schuylkill River thanks to a partnership between the Fairmount Park Conservancy and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation.
The houses switched to LED lighting in 2005 and were refurbished in 2016. They say rising maintenance costs is the reason for the overhaul.
The city says the project, which might be complete by April, features upgraded technology and durable housing boxes to protect the system from weather and wildlife damage.
