PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — There was no sign of mechanical failure that might have led to the deadly collision in Carlisle last month between a small plane and a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter, according to early findings from the National Transportation Safety Board.
The Aug. 19 crash at Carlisle Airport killed the Cessna pilot and left the two troopers in the chopper seriously hurt.
The NTSB said the pilots appeared to be in normal communication with each other.
Before the plane was about to land, its wings “rocked to the left and right,” the NTSB said. It pitched up and climbed, dropped, leveled out, then “rapidly pitched up” again and slammed into the back of the helicopter.
The NTSB is still investigating what caused the crash.
