PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An Ocean County man is accused of starting a fire at an abandoned property over the weekend that injured a responding firefighter.
Around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, police and fire officials responded to a fire at a detached garage on the property, located on Maple Avenue in Plumsted Township.
One firefighter at the scene injured her hand. She was treated at the hospital and released.
According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, investigators discovered that 21-year-old Matthew Waldman, of Plumsted Township, had been staying at the residence illegally.
Investigators said Waldman started the fire.
He was taken into custody on Sunday and charged with arson, burglary and aggravated assault on a firefighter.
