PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia Police officer is facing DUI and other charges after he drove into a house in Northeast Philadelphia. The crash left one person in critical condition and a family dog dead.

Police said 27-year-old Gregory Campbell was off-duty when he left the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge off Caroline Road just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to authorities, he was driving through the intersection at Comly Road when he lost control of his vehicle and went airborne into a home on the 2800 block of Comly. Inside the home were a couple and their two dogs.

Investigators said a 53-year-old woman became trapped under the vehicle. She was rescued and taken to a hospital. A 45-year-old man was also injured.

Police said the couple's two dogs were struck, as well. One of those dogs was killed, while the other was taken to a vet for treatment.

Campbell is charged with aggravated assault, DUI, and related offenses.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said in a statement, "A family should always feel safe in their home, and yet the actions of this individual shattered that reality... Police officers must be held to a higher standard, even while off-duty."

FOP President John McNesby called it an unfortunate incident, and said the police union will continue to monitor the investigation.
