PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A police officer shot and killed a dog that attacked his partner while they were investigating a deadly shooting in West Philadelphia Monday night.
It happened around 9 p.m. near Leidy and Girard avenues in the Parkside section of the city.
When police arrived, they found a 56-year-old man unconscious and a 45-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the hand.
Chief Inspector Scott Small said while officers were inside the house, a pit bull bit one of them in the leg.
“The dog bit one of the responding officers in the leg. However, it did not break his skin. The officer was wearing boots and he was bit in the boot … so he is OK,” he said.
The officer’s partner shot and killed the dog.
The 56-year-old man died at the hospital.
The shooter ran away with a woman. Police said they know who they are looking for because witnesses were able to identify them.
