PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia court administrators have issued an alert about a phone scam targeting the public, where scammers pretend to be court representatives.
The scam often starts as a spoofed call that looks like it's from the Philadelphia courts. The callers threaten people and demand money, credit card information or other personal details.
Court officials have a warning: Don’t fall for it.
Authorities said the courts would never call and ask for any personal information like social security numbers or credit card information. Payments, they said, can only be made online through the electronic filing system or PA ePay.
They urge people to report any such calls or texts to contact the Federal Trade Commission or call the police.
