TRENTON, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — After a federal judge blocked President Donald Trump’s ban on offshore wind projects, industry advocates in New Jersey hope it breathes new life into potential projects for the state.
Allison McLeod with the League of Conservation Voters agreed with the judge’s ruling that Trump’s ban was “arbitrary and capricious,” and expects to see wind projects completed in New Jersey at some point in the future.
“We view this as a setback that happened with the federal government, but we’re glad to see the path forward,” she said.
New Jersey Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill ran on a platform of affordability and lowering energy costs. She said she will use every tool available for expanding energy production and lowering costs, but didn’t commit specifically to offshore wind.
The legislature in Trenton has recently embraced nuclear energy generation.
Trump also isn’t backing down. He told a crowd this week in the Poconos that wind energy was “a scam.”
“The most expensive energy. The only ones that get rich are the developers,” he said.
It means the federal judge’s ruling is likely to be appealed by the Trump Administration.
