PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Travelers hoped for smoother skies Sunday after major delays and cancellations at Philadelphia International Airport the day before.
A brief ground stop Saturday caused by an electrical issue led to at least 75 canceled flights and more than 330 delays, according to flight tracking data.
American Airlines officials said the issue caused three of its flights to be canceled.
Among those affected was Pennsylvania state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, who posted a video on social media showing a screen filled with delayed flights. In his post, he called on U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to address ongoing issues at airports.
"It was really painful being here, watching a couple whose flight had been delayed over a day now, come back to the airport after having to get a hotel, and they're going to miss their daughter's wedding," Kenyatta said.
Airlines are advising travelers to check their flight status on the airline’s website or app before heading to the airport.
