PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — If you tried to file for unemployment early in the pandemic but couldn’t get through, Pennsylvania officials just made a change that ensures you get paid if you’re eligible.
“We are committed to getting every eligible unemployment compensation claimant the money they are owed,” said Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry Secretary Jerry Oleksiak.
He said they expanded the ability to backdate claims from six weeks to 52 weeks.
“And expanding our backdating ability will ensure that no eligible claimant will lose out on payments because of the hardships caused by this pandemic,” he added.
If you were able to put your claim in already but didn’t get paid for some weeks because of the six-week regulation, you’ll also now be able to get the rest of your money.
Contact department officials by emailing uchelp@pa.gov with “Backdate Request” in the subject line.
Oleksiak asks residents to send just one email to keep the system from clogging.
