PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — With a near-unanimous vote, PECO union workers have officially ratified a new contract.
The contract, which includes bigger pension plans, full retirement medical coverage, and wage increases, is effective through March 31, 2031. It also requires 24-hour notice of mandatory overtime for call center workers and improved upgrade pay for members doing work outside their job duties.
IBEW Local 614 said these were the major priorities for the workers when they went on a three-day strike earlier this month. It was the first work stoppage in the company's history.
In a statement, Local 614 President Larry Anastasi said this is "an investment in the skill and expertise of the people who keep the lights on and the gas flowing."
He advises PECO not to raise customers' bills, citing the company's large profit margins. Last year, the company made more than $800 million.
