Pedestrians struck by car in North Philadelphia; 1 killed

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man was killed and a woman was hurt when they were struck by a car while crossing the street in North Philadelphia on Sunday.

It happened around 2 p.m. at 16th Street and West Girard Avenue.

Police said a Ford Mustang was going eastbound on Girard Avenue when the man and woman began crossing the street in the middle of the block. The driver tried to swerve to avoid them but hit them both.

The driver stayed on the scene and called 911.

The woman is in stable condition.
