SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Residents and council members in Pemberton, Burlington County, are calling for the mayor to resign due to several misconduct allegations against him.
Multiple residents spoke during the public comment period at Monday night’s township meeting and shared their displeasure with Republican Mayor Jack Tompkins, who is facing multiple lawsuits alleging sexual harassment from former employees.
“I would go home from work at nights crying because of his behavior,” said resident and former employee Vicky Adams. “I would not want to go into work the next day because of his behavior.”
About halfway through the meeting, Tompkins walked out.
Council President Matthew Bianchini, also a Republican, issued a statement saying the mayor has “subjected the residents and employees of our township to repeated and deeply troubling instances of misconduct.”
He called for Tompkins to resign.
Tompkins, who was elected in 2023, did not respond to KYW Newsradio’s request for comment.
