PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Penn Museum is celebrating Women’s History Month with a full day of programming and activities for the entire family.
CultureFest!, which takes place Saturday, March 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. showcases the often-overlooked contributions of female movers and shakers across cultures and communities throughout history, including women from the Philadelphia-area.
Tena Thomason, who is with the museum, says there will be lots of musical performances, dance performances, drag storytelling, artisans like a ceramic marketplace and different arts crafts for children to enjoy.
The special attraction of the day is an original composition created just for Philly. It was made possible through a partnership with the Marion Anderson House and Sister Cities choir from Camden, New Jersey.
“They’ve been learning about Marion’s work and life and learning how to tell stories through music. So they’ve written this original piece that will debut on March 11th,” Thomason said.
Thomason says the day is 100% family ready and she hopes to see lots of people show out.
“Lots of hands on. I hope the kids and families will be up there jumping around and enjoying what we have to offer.”
