PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Paying those tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike bills is getting a little easier now with more digital options.

“Effective now, customers can use Apple and Google Pay as options to pay their tolls,” said Marissa Orbanek, press secretary for the Turnpike. She says toll users want these digital options.

The Turnpike announced officially adding the mobile pay options after a soft launch in September. “And during the soft launch, we saw thousands of customers taking advantage of Google and Apple Pay.”

When toll users go online or open the Turnpike app to pay their bill, they are presented with the two new mobile options to make payments.

“When you go to pay it — just like any other payment, any other website that you go to — our app that you're utilizing, it brings up payment options, and Google and Apple Pay are now options available for the toll.”

Orbanek says they are also seeing a large influx of customers using their app, PA Toll Pay.

“It just hit 2 million downloads in May,” she said.

The app is for customers who want to pay tolls through a mobile option. Apple and Google Pay are available through the app for  E-ZPass and Toll-by-Plate users.

Customers can pay their bill or replenish their E-ZPass accounts using either Apple or Google Pay. At the time of publication, customers may not set up auto-replenishment with the new payment options — however the Turnpike is looking at whether that is possible in the future.
