PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — While Pennsylvania still has work to do to iron out vaccine distribution issues, COVID-19 case data continues to trend in the right direction.

Statewide, the positivity rate, the percent of all tests coming back positive, is 6.3%, down a bit from last week, and much lower than 16% in mid-December.

According to the state dashboard, Montgomery County's 7-day average of new cases is 100, down from 178 two weeks ago, and the positivity rate is 6%. County commissioner Dr. Val Arkoosh:

"You can see that we are moving in the right direction steadily, and we are finally lower than we were at our peak in the spring," said County Commissioner Dr. Val Arkoosh.

But that can change quickly, she added, if people start getting together without masks or ignore other safety measures. "Compared to where we were all summer and well into the fall, we have long way to go to get down to those kinds of numbers," she said.

That means there is still significant amount of virus around, said Arkoosh, so people should continue to avoid indoor gatherings, wear masks and wash hands.

Bucks County said their seven-day average of new cases, 128, is the lowest it's been since November 7.

Pennsylvania's dashboard has Chester County’s positivity rate holding steady at 5.6% while Delaware County is 6.1%.
