COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. (KYW Newsreadio) -- A school district in Montgomery County is shutting down transportation for several days after a school bus driver died from COVID-19 and dozens others have tested positive.
Perkiomen Valley School District bus driver Lynn Himes died Monday. The district contracts with Student Transportation of America for busing, and Himes is one of more than 25 Perkiomen Valley drivers or bus aides who have recently tested positive.
At a school board meeting earlier this week, district officials expressed their condolences to Himes’ friends and family.
They also say it’s a painful reminder of how important safety protocols are. They are working with STA and the Montgomery County Office of Public Health to determine if all safety protocols were being followed.
Bus transportation in the district is shut down through Monday.
The district says no students have tested positive.
An STA spokesperson says all drivers and aides are required to wear masks or face shields at all times. Any affected drivers are isolating for 10 days after their positive test and will only return once they’re no longer showing symptoms. And they say all impacted buses were taken out of service for cleaning.
