PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Nearly 300 people will lose their jobs at the Philadelphia Housing Authority.

The layoffs will happen in two phases. The first phase will be in mid-January, and the second will happen in June of next year.

The nearly 300 employees slated to be let go represent about a fifth of PHA’s total workforce.

PHA said it will save $28 million a year with the move, and that the money will be redirected to help people who live in public housing.
