PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Some Phillies fans stepped up to the plate this year to raise funds for animal welfare.
For every triple the Phillies hit in the 2024 season, $100 was donated to Bette’s Triples – A Cause for Paws, a fundraising effort for the Pennsylvania SPCA created by the Phandemic Krew.
The cause honors Krew member Beth Overmier’s mother, Bette, a passionate Phillies fan and animal lover who died shortly after the 2023 postseason.
“With the support of friends, family, the Phandemic Krew, the Phillies allowed us to put our banner up in [section] 301 every night. The banner actually went to London, to Pittsburgh and Chicago for the series in those cities,” Beth said.
The group raised $10,000 to help with surgeries and other care needed for animals at PSPCA like a dog named Merlin (pictured above), who needs bilateral hip surgery. Once that’s done, he’ll be a strong candidate for adoption.
