PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — With school out of session and cafeterias closed for the summer, many kids have lost access to food assistance.

That’s why, for the second year in a row, Philabundance is kicking off the summer with its free Summer Lunchbox program.

Through Aug. 24, Philabundance Community Kitchen will whip up 66,000 fresh lunches and 11,000 breakfast kits for thousands of food-insecure families in the Philadelphia region.

The meals will be distributed by 25 of their community partners in nine surrounding counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
