PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A portion of Broad Street is being renamed in honor of Jerry Blavat, the legendary Philly DJ who died earlier this year.
Officials will unveil Jerry Blavat Way on Broad between South and Lombard streets.
A block party will kick off the street naming from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with free food and, of course, an oldies dance party.

Blavat, known as the “Geator with the Heater” and the “Boss with the Hot Sauce,” died in January at the age of 82.
He gained a following by DJing live dance parties in the area and leading radio stations, which helped many acts of the 1960s become household names, like the Four Seasons and the Isley Brothers.
In the ’70s, he opened his own nightclub in Margate, New Jersey. He was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia’s Hall of Fame, Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
This fall, the Kimmel Cultural Campus will host a tribute concert to Blavat, who was also a fixture at the Kimmel for decades.
