Philadelphia Gas Works provides relief grants for customers impacted by pandemic

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia Gas Works is giving away $2 million in grant money to customers hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

The grant money, which goes directly to customers’ bills, is for people who have experienced job and income loss, are caring for someone with COVID-19, or have school-aged kids impacted by stay-at-home orders.

“This is a $300 grant for customers who may have fallen behind on their natural gas bills due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,” explained Richard Barnes.

He said they've seen an uptick in customers falling behind on their gas bills and want to help them.

“Throughout the pandemic, our customers have faced hardships, they've been impacted in many ways and we wanted to offer them some financial relief,” Barnes said.

The grants do not require paperwork and are being given away on a first-come, first-served basis. To learn more and find out about eligibility, click here.
