PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 44-year-old man from Philadelphia has been indicted for allegedly bringing an explosive device into a hospital emergency room.
The U.S. Attorney's Office said Brian Kunsman is facing charges stemming from an incident in Oct. 2021.
An indictment alleges that Kunsman had a homemade pipe bomb in his backpack when he was a patient in the emergency room of St. Luke's University Hospital in Bethlehem.
The indictment states that an attending nurse discovered the device, leading to an evacuation.
Incoming trauma patients were sent to nearby hospitals.
If convicted, Kunsman could face up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $260,000 fine.
