PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Mummers Parade returns to Broad Street on New Year’s Day after being canceled last time due to the pandemic.
The parade features five Mummers divisions: The wenches, comics, fancy brigades, string bands and fancies.
The 120-year Philadelphia tradition steps off at 9 a.m. on New Year’s Day at City Hall and goes south on Broad Street. It will conclude at Broad and Washington Avenue.
There are several performance points along Broad Street at Sansom, Pine and Carpenter Streets.
“Philadelphia is one of the most diverse cities in the country, and the origins of the Mummers Parade has its roots in some of Philadelphia’s immigrant communities," said Jessica Mazzone, the Mummers Museum Board of Director's vice president.
"Our members are committed to showcasing performances that are family-friendly and welcoming to all who attend."
The parade organizers would like spectators and participants to follow all city and CDC mask requirements.
The parade is free, but there are tickets being sold for limited bleacher seating.
Coinciding with the parade, the two indoor fancy brigade shows at the Pennsylvania Convention Center will also take place on New Year’s Day. They are at 11:30 a.m.and 5:30 p.m.
Tickers for the indoor shows and bleacher seating for the parade are available at the Independence Visitor Center or by clicking here.
