PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Musicians’ Union and the Philadelphia Orchestra have come to terms on a new bargaining agreement.
The tentative deal includes wage increases, protections for musicians against hearing loss, and expanded opportunities for students to attend rehearsals.
Orchestra members will vote on the contract this week.
If ratified, it would start immediately and run for three years — through Sept. 9, 2029.
This round of contract negotiations featured much less public hostility than the last time around.
Just three years ago, musicians authorized a strike and filed unfair labor practice complaints with the National Labor Relations Board. The strike never came to fruition.
The Philadelphia Orchestra is scheduled to kick off its season on Sept. 24 with a benefit concert at the Kimmel Center.
