PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Fairmount nursing home that can house more than 400 people is shutting down.
Philadelphia Nursing Home, situated across the street from Girard College, is set to close by the end of the year.
In a statement from city officials, the facility, managed by Fairmount Long Term Care, is shutting down due to financial situations. Health Commissioner Dr. Cheryl Bettigole pointed to the pandemic and the costs of running the large facility, as many of the 402 beds are reportedly unoccupied.
The building is also in need of a lot of repairs.
People who currently live in the home will work with staff to find another place to move to that fits their needs and financial situation, the city said. No resident will be moved until they have a plan in place.
As for staff, the city said there are a large number of openings at other facilities.
