PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a possible road rage incident from Sunday night that led to a driver being shot and I-95 being shut down for over an hour. The whole ordeal started from what authorities say was a simple mistake.
According to state police, just before 8 p.m. Sunday night, a 35-year-old Lansdowne man traveling northbound on I-95 accidentally tapped the rear end of a motorcycle with the front bumper of his car, just before the Walt Whitman Bridge exit. What followed resulted in an incident that shut down I-95 for over an hour.
Police say the motorcyclist fell back to ride alongside the driver's side of the vehicle, pulled out a handgun and fired 13 shots into the car. He struck the driver at least twice — once in the arm and once in the side of his head.
The suspect then sped away from the scene with someone on a different motorcycle. Police say it was black and green, and they are considering the motorcyclist a second suspect.
The victim pulled off the road and flagged down a passing police officer near Washington Avenue. He is now in stable condition at a nearby hospital.
Police say there was a 33-year-old female passenger in the car who was not injured.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 911.
