PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia police lieutenant who allegedly said the N-word on a radio dispatch line last month has been fired.

The lieutenant was initially placed on restricted duty and reassigned to the 39th District while the department conducted an internal investigation.

City Councilmember Cherelle Parker said there should be zero tolerance for the officer’s alleged behavior. Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 President John McNesby added that the officer’s language has no place in the police force.

“This incident does not reflect the fact that our officers work hard every day to serve our diverse city with integrity and honor,” McNesby said in a statement.

The police department did not release the officer’s name.
