PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police tell KYW Newsradio officers have been placed on administrative duty after discrepancies were found when looking into gun crime arrests.

The department said the case started as a routine search into daily activities of officers, and it evolved into a full-fledged investigation.

Those officers will stay on desk duty as the investigations continue in each case.

"The audit found some things that were concerning, and we opened further investigations on those things," Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner of Professional Standards Robin Wimberly told NBC10.

"The evidence vs. paperwork vs. what may have happened."

The NBC10 investigation said that out of 325 arrests that were investigated, at least 50 involved discrepancies between officers' reports and what apparently happened during the arrest.

Those questions include whether cameras were turned off during arrests, according to the report.

"Did they purposely not turn them on? Some who turned them off during the middle of an investigation?" said Wimberly.

"If some individuals had made decisions not to follow the rules...that would be a problem."
