PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A former federal prison guard in Philadelphia who pleaded guilty to sexual assault charges has been sentenced to three decades in prison.
Michael Jefferson, 43, admitted that he sexually abused an inmate in July 2024 while on duty as a correctional officer inside the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia, located at Seventh and Arch streets.
The woman filed a lawsuit, and Jefferson was charged last spring. The woman claimed Jefferson raped her in her cell during her time on suicide watch.
Jefferson pleaded guilty late last year to aggravated sexual abuse, sexual abuse of a ward, and related offenses.
There are no details in the outcome of the survivor’s lawsuit.
