PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The region is bracing for another bout of cold weather.
Officials in Montgomery County extended a Code Blue advisory through Feb. 5, and Camden County, New Jersey issued a Code Blue for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 1 and 2.
Other counties are likely to follow.
After Friday’s freezing rain clears out, a cold front is expected to pass through, making weekend conditions colder and windy, the National Weather Service said. Saturday night’s low is forecast to be 21 degrees, with wind gusts as high as 25 mph throughout the day. Winds will ease up a bit on Sunday, with low temperatures around 35 degrees.
Under a Code Blue advisory, resources like shelters and warming centers are available for unhoused people.
“The temperature is set to drop dangerously low for an extended period, so it is critical that everyone is inside and away from the elements,” Camden County Commissioner Jonathan Young said in a statement.
People are also advised to check on elderly or disabled family members or neighbors. And, officials warned pet owners to keep their animals inside and out of the cold.
