PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Wings, the professional box lacrosse team, is ceasing operations at the end of the 2025-2026 season.
The team posted a statement on social media on Monday, saying, in part:
Following the 2025-2026 season, we have made the decision to cease operations of the Philadelphia Wings franchise under the Comcast Spectacor portfolio. This was not an easy conclusion to reach, and it is one we considered with great care.
Since the Wings’ re-establishment in 2017 and return to the turf in 2018, the team has proudly carried on Philadelphia’s rich lacrosse tradition at the highest level. We hope you will join us in continuing to root for our players as they pursue new opportunities throughout the league.
The Wings were founded in 1987 as one of the original members of the National Lacrosse League (NLL). They won six championships between 1989 and 2001.
The franchise relocated in 2014 to Connecticut, where they were renamed the New England Blackwolves. In 2017, Comcast Spectacor purchased an expansion NLL team in Philadelphia, entering a new era for Wings lacrosse.
The Wings have always played at what is now the Xfinity Mobile Arena. They were eliminated from the playoffs this season, so their final home game will take place on April 11, and their final game on April 18 in Vancouver.
